Ghost Stories of Pittsburgh
and Allegheny County
by Beth E. Trapani and Charles J. Adams IIIIf there are unearthly guests in Annette's
home, they seem to have developed a fondness for her.
"About two months ago, I was leaning over the bathtub with my head under the
faucet washing my hair. I felt something touching my arm, and I figured it was a shampoo
bottle. But when I looked, there was nothing there.
"And I've felt a warm hand brushing the hair off my forehead! I'm scared of a lot
of things, but for some reason, that didn't scare me."
Annette's oldest daughter, Connie, has also experienced the presence.
"One night Connie was in her room, on her bed with the lights on," Annette
said. "She heard a noise, scratching back and forth - all by itself - on the floor.
It wasn't plugged in, and there was nothing near it. From then on, she's slept with the
lights on."
Annette relayed more of Connie's strange encounters.
"One day she was running up the stairs, and as she turned to go up our landing,
something swooshed past her - a flashing figure of light. She was really frightened, and
flew down the steps to us."
Annette believes most of the supernatural activity in the house centers in the upstairs
hallway. Apparently, that's the place to spot a spook in this Dormont home.
"Connie has seen a lot more than I have," said Annette. "Recently she
said, 'Mom, you're not going to believe this, but I'm starting to see things... I'm seeing
parts of a body - I saw a leg.'
"I said, 'Oh, come on!' But one day, I told the girls I work with about this. Our
secretary's sister was married to a guy who lived in our house, and here she got really
white.
"Apparently, the woman who had lived there at one time had her legs amputated.
"I never knew about the woman, and I never told my daughter."
