Adobe Angels: The
Ghost of Las Cruces & Southern New Mexico
by Antonio R. GarcezI've been working at the
restaurant as a waitress for two years. My first
ghost experience took place one evening around
8:30, just a year ago.
I was
serving a table of three women in the Carlota
room. After taking their order for coffee, I
returned from the kitchen with a serving tray,
upon which were cups of hot coffee on saucers. As
i placed the cups on the table before the
patrons, we noticed the cups start to move slowly
by themselves. They rapidly moved around the
place mats, flatware and dishes, as if an unseen
hand was pushing them along. Our mouths fell open
wide with astonishment. The women moved away from
the table. It happened really fast. To move from
the spot where I set down the cups, to the place
they eventually ended up at the opposite end of
the table, they took no more than seven seconds.
I gave a nervous half-smile to the patrons, I was
perplexed by the incident. Cautiously I looked
beneath the table and checked the table legs for
any unevenness which may have caused the cups and
saucers to move. I found nothing out of the
ordinary. We laughed nervously and changed the
subject.
The
second ghost experience occurred about
midmorning, just a few days after the coffee cup
experience. Several other wait staff and I were
in the Maximillian Room, preparing it for a
banquet. My task was to push the chairs up to the
tables, making sure the table cloth was draping
nicely. After completing two tables, I moved on
to the next one. When I glanced over to the table
I had just completed, I noticed that one chair
was pulled away from the table. I thought this
was unusual because I had personally arranged it.
Returning to that particular table, I pushed the
chair under once again. As I turned to walk away,
the chair suddenly whipped around on its own and
moved away from the table! I saw it with my own
eyes and still could not believe it. It appeared
as if someone had taken hold of the chair, and
then pulled it out and away from the table. Once
again, I looked under the table, thinking maybe a
fellow employee was hiding underneath to scare
me. I saw no one. I decided to leave the chair
right where it stood. This was reason enough for
me to know that the ghost wanted to have its way
with the chair, and believe me, I did not want to
argue!
