Guide to Ohio University Ghosts & Legends, Craig Tremlay

Crawford Hall is part of the "Front Four" dormitories of South Green that
also consist of Pickering, Brown and Mackinnon Halls. All four of them were built in the
mid-to-late 1960s. This is the last stop on the dormitory tour, and it is my favorite
ghost story of all.
Just after Spring Break on Easter weekend in April 1993, as parents and students were
moving belongings back into the dorms, a young girl named Laura plunged to the ground from
her fourth floor window. To the horror of all the witnesses, she died at the scene on the
catwalk in front of Crawford Hall. It was never discovered exactly why she fell out of the
window.
Her spirit lives on in the dormitory, flickering lights and opening and closing doors.
The first student to ever report seeing Laura, reported speaking to a girl in his dorm
room whom he had never met. She simply came in his room while he was lying on his bed
napping and began to speak with him. Her presence woke him up, and she even apologized for
waking him. He said she brought a sense of total calm around him and didn't even realize
she was a ghost.
While describing the girl and inciden to his RA, the RA was horrified to realize that
the girl he was speaking about was Laura. His room was the room directly behind the impact
spot where Laura fell. Even more remarkable, is the phenomenon that occurs in the front
Crawford Hall rooms, where stereos and CD players have trouble or simply do not play Bob
Marley music. Ironically, Bob Marley was Laura's favorite music artist.
