| The Psychic Mafia, M. Lamar Keene, 1997, photos, biblio, 177 pp. $16.95 |
|
|
 |
| This is a reprint of
the original which first appeared in 1976 and it is an absolutely fascinating book. Cast a
bit in the Awful Disclosures school of confessional writing, it is both candid and
appalling. Keene, who attributes his rehabilitation to the efforts of his adoptive mother
and his Masonic brothers, tells All, giving methods used by fraudulent mediums to read
billets, create the illusion of levitation, and summon up apparitions. The bibliography,
which lists exposes and studies of specific fraudulent techniquesof
"regurgitating mediums," for exampleis worth the price of the book. |

Tales of
animals who returned from beyond the grave to comfort or protect their human friends as
well as stories of animal ESP, animal omens and mysterious creatures. "Foxy" the
fox terrier who died of grief for his master, yet returned to jump up and ride behind lone
horsemen. "Skitty," the ghostly cat, who left behind orange hairs on her
mistress' blanket. The raven-haunted Hapsburgs. A banshee German shepherd. A very readable
and spooky book. |

| The Psychic
Power of Children, Cassandra Eason, 1994, 255 pp. $12.95 |
 |
| No castles or White Ladies here, but the extraordinary
psychic experiences of ordinary people. Ghosts, premonitions, near-death experiences,
astral projection, and poltergeists. A young boy who saw the ghost of an old woman in long
black cloak and bonnet, pushing a black pram containing a baby. When questioned, the
neighbors revealed that it was Old Mother Dyer, a notorious baby-farmer, hung in 1896, who
buried unwanted babies alive in freshly-dug graves to avoid detection. A ghostly band
playing outside a window that heralded a baby's crib-death. Ghostly grandparents that
visit small children. I wish Eason would go into more detail on
some of her stories. On the other hand, she has a refreshingly no-nonsense attitude
towards psychic matters. |
