Poltergeist: A Study in Destructive Haunting, Colin Wilson, 1993, biblio., index, 440 pp. $5.95

Wilson, who always has something interesting and provocative to say, has come up with another classic! With a breathtaking breadth of knowledge, he covers poltergeist "symptoms", possession, elementals, fairies, ley lines and earth energy, witchcraft, ghosts, and psychoanalysis. I've always accepted Dr. Nandor Fodor's theories that poltergeists arise out of a troubled individual's unconscious, but this book is making me think again.

The Poltergeist Phenomenon, An Investigation into Psychic Disturbance, John and Anne Spencer, 1997, photos, biblio, index, 311 pp. $13.95

The authors do a tremendous job of assimilating and classifying the vast amount of material available on this perplexing subject. Perhaps I enjoyed this book so much because I agree with one of their tentative conclusions: that poltergeists are created by a living person unbearably frustrated by an untenable situation—a child with an abusive parent, for example. Essential reading!

Poltergeists & The Paranormal, Fact Beyond Fiction, Dr Philip Stander & Dr Paul Schmolling, 1996, biblio, index, 212 pp $12.95
newinkl3.gif (884 bytes)
Everything but the kitchen spook in this book of poltergeists, psychokinesis, ghosts and ESP. The authors are trying to make one theory fit everything from ghosts to mediums to near-death experiences to ESP tests and I'm not sure it can be done. But this is a breathtakingly ambitious survey of all kinds of paranormal phenomena. The Seaford Poltergeist; Margo, possibly attacked by an incubus; Eleanore Zugun; people who go into trances and speak in foreign languages unknown to them

Possessed Possessions, Haunted Antiques, Furniture and Collectibles, Ed Okonowicz, 1996, 106 pp $9.95

I used to own an antique clothing store where customers swore we brought in ghosts with the clothes so I can relate to this fascinating and unique book. Twenty-one stories of haunted objects including the haunted headboard that made frantic tapping noises--as if someone was trying to communicate. The smoky ghost who lived in a jelly cupboard. A troubled doll that seemed to come with its own little girl ghost. The whispering head of a sea captain that emerged from his dresser. Read this and you'll never buy antiques again.

Possessed Possessions 2 More Haunted Antiques, Furniture and Collectibles, Ed Okonowicz, 1998 106 pp $9.95

They’re baaaack! Even better than the first volume, this book thoroughly creeped me out with its tales of the eeriest of objects! An antique crib that exuded a smoky evil. A cursed cupboard. The murder dresser, whose mirror reflected a woman being hacked to death. Two police officers who had a run-in with a flying chair with a mind of its own. Voodoo dolls—folklore or reality? Highly recommended. Okonowicz just gets better and better.

Psychic Families, Cassandra Eason, 1995, 192 pp $12.95
newinkl3.gif (884 bytes)
I'm certain that family members share some psychic bond. I was making dinner one evening, waiting for my husband to return from flying his glider, when a little voice said, "He's down, but he's OK." "Oh," I thought back, "He's crashed the glider, but he's all right." Not five minutes later, my husband called and sheepishly admitted he'd " landed out" in somebody's wheatfield. These alternately touching and chilling stories from Eason document the psychic links between family members--even beyond the grave. Family spirits that stay on through generations. Ghostly grandparents who look in on grandchildren. Little child ghosts who will tug at your heartstrings. (Or possibly rip the heart from your chest...) Precognition, ESP, how psychic ability runs in families.
