An update of Haunted Houses of Grand Rapids by Gary Eberle and Don Farrant. The ghostly grand dame, "Mrs. Smith," who pinched and slapped the people living in her house if they did not live up to her Victorian ideals of manners and dress. A hooded skeleton with pointed teeth that appeared in a dead child's car. The best-dressed ghost in Grand Rapids.

Haunted Houses of Michigan, Karen Hoisington Donaldson, photos, 1998, 65 pp $9.95
newinkl3.gif (884 bytes)
(Mostly) short, no-frills ghost stories from journalist Donaldson. The ghost of an old farmer, indignant at being watched. The ghost in the bright-green snowsuit. A levitating candle in the house where a man and his daughter died as a result of a fire. A resort on Lake Michigan where a ghastly glowing green skull was seen by mother and daughter. Panting, pounding, pacing, and purring ghosts. There are also a number of photos that may show ghostly activity.

Michigan Haunts and Hauntings, Marion Kuclo, 1992, line art, maps, 128 pp. SORRY! This book is now out of print. Please ask us to find you a nice used copy.

Kuclo was also known as "the Green Witch Gundella," since she dyed her skin green like her ancestors, the Green Witches of Scotland. [Like the Picts, only camo.] Ghostly lovers in a cheap hotel on Michigan Ave., the ghost of a muff, dropped by a murdered woman, which emits the putrid odor of death, and a woman who got a ghost with the trunk she purchased at a garage sale. A spooky and entertaining book. As an Ohioan, I used to think of Michigan as a dull state that couldn't possibly have any good ghosts. Not any more.
