| Item no. 480 Chicken Skin: True Spooky Stories of
HawaiI, Rick Carroll, 1996, illus, 126 pp $14.95 |
 |
The Dead are all around in Hawaii and this
appealing book gives us 32 accounts by people who have experienced the inexplicable in
HawaiI. Real, contemporary stories of strange encounters with Madame Pele, the Night
Marchers, ancient bones, and more. The rock that talked. A baby who played with the
usually deadly Nightmarchers. Two of my favorites were the woman who got a guided
graveyard tourfrom a ghost. And a spirit who told his own story of haunted golf
courses to a journalist during the PGA Grand Slam at Poipu Bay.
Please note that Chicken Skin is a trademark of Glen Grant. |

| Ghostly Tales for Over the Pali: An Audio Tour
through Hawaiis Supernatural with Glen Grant, Glen Grant, 1996, approx 60 min NOT
CURRENTLY AVAILABLE |
 |
| These are really good stories! Althought this started off
with a rather conventional phantom hitchhiker child ghost, it picked up spooky speed fast
with the Bridge at Kipapa Gulch where security guards quickly learn to ignore the screams
they hear, a police office who chased a phantom, and the terrible faceless ghost at a
drive-in. Contents: Side A A Lost Child in Manoa, Haunted Makapuu, A Phantom
Hitchhiker at Kahuku, The Haunted House of Waimea Valley, Under the Bridge at Kipapa
Gulch, The Souls Leaping Place at Kaena, Mysterous Lights at Makaha; Side B
Restless Spirits at Kualakai, Faceless Ghost at Ewa, A Strange Encounter at Salt
Lake, Pork over the Pali, The Legend of Morgans Corner, In the Graveyard at Manoa |

| Hawaiis Best Spooky Tales, True Local
Spine-tinglers, Rick Carroll, 1997, art, maps, guide to spooky places, $11.95 |
 |
| True, contemporary spooky island stories related by a
variety of eyewitnesses. The woman who kicked a heiau (temple) and was attacked by
spirits who grabbed her ankles, cutting off her blood. Madam Pele, who confounded local
officials by refusing to be evacuated during an eruption. A hairy-handed ghost who tried
to choke a child at Hickham AFB. Some stories are told matter-of-factly while some tellers
have a more dramatic style. The interest for me is how Hawaiis "legends"
carry over into today. |
