| A Guide to the
Haunted Queen Mary, Robert J. Wlodarski, Anne
Nathan-Wlodarski, Richard Senate, 1995, photos, bilbio, 73 pp $17.95 |

The Queen Mary could be the
most haunted ship afloat. Since her launch in 1936, at least 55 people have died aboard
the luxury liner. Hundreds more may have died when she served as a troop transport during
WWII. And 338 seamen were killed when the Queen Mary rammed the Curacoa off
Scotland. With such a history, it's no wonder the QM has a chill about it that has nothing
to do with the bracing sea breezes! The "Shaft Alley Spectre"--a young man
crushed by a mechanical door in the engine room. The swimming pool--haunted by multiple
ghosts. The ghost of a cook supposedly baked alive in his own oven. Lots of interesting
short eyewitness accounts from visitors, a good map of sightings, and a form to submit
your own ghostly experiences. |

| Haunted Alcatraz, A History of La Isla de los
Alcatraces and Guide to Paranormal Activity, Robert J. Wlodarski, Anne N. Wlodarski,
and Michael J. Kouri, 1998, photos, biblio, 114 pp $17.95 |
 |
| Nobody ever escaped from the fortress-like prison known as
"The Rock" or "Hellcatraz"even after death, to judge by these
fascinating , sometimes gruesome, stories. After several chapters of historical
introduction, guards, visitors, and psychics tell their eyewitness stories. One of the
best parts of the book was an interview with a former Wardens wife by co-author
Michael J. Kourithis firsthand description of life on "the Rock" and her
familys own experiences made for compelling reading. The evil entity with "red
eyes" that haunts solitary confinement. A phantom lighthouse that appears and
disappears out of the mists. The ghostly Civil War soldiers who line up with the other
inmates. This is chilling stuff and, I believe, the Wlodarskis best book yet! |

Interesting and unusual stories from
a strange island. The Olsen House, where an "evil force" tried to take over a
woman--possibly the ghost of a woman who drank herself to death after her daughter died on
the operating table. A phantom Chicago Cubs player at the Country Club. A levitating
Christmas tree. A mysterious "green door" to another dimension in the hills
behind the Catalina Island Marine Institute. A number of inns and places open to the
public are named (and given little advertising plugs). In spite of a number of typos, a
fascinating and unsettling book. |
