Ghosts and Jeffrey, Kathryn Tucker Windham and Margaret Gillis
Figh, 1969, photos, 120 pp. $13.00 |
 |
| If you haven't yet met Jeffrey, you should know that he is
a mischievous "something" who lives in the Windham home in Selma. Early in the
book, Mrs. Windham tells how she first met Jeffrey and how he posed for his photograph.
The story serves to introduce thirteen other chilling tales ranging from the spectral
steamer Eliza Battle which burned to the water one cold February night, to the
ghostly face of a lynching victim etched on the Pickens County Courthouse window. The
Jeffrey books are a delightful mix of Southern folklore and fact. |
